Note: Bananas were starting to get real brown, why not experiment with those next. And wow, it was a learning experience!
Ingredients:
3 over-ripe Bananas
Directions:
Cut bananas into 1/4-inch thick slices
Place banana slices onto the dehydrator's racks in a single layer, making sure they do not touch
Turn on the dehydrator (mine is only "on" or "off", no temperature control)
After about 10 hours in the dehydrator and allowed to cool:
Thoughts: Very sticky and chewy... almost marshmallowy, but like some sort of cross between Lucky Charms marshmallows and a normal Jet-Puffed.
Final Notes:
Don't use over-ripe bananas:
-The taste is a little off, in that it tastes over-ripe (unless that's what you want)
-I think their extra sugar is part of why they were so sticky (I had to break out the bench scrapper to peel them off the trays.) and maybe played a part in why they were chewy and not crisp at all
Don't use the mandoline slicer here, it's too thin! And the over-ripe bananas didn't hold up on it. Cut maybe a ⅓ inch next time. But really I should look up some directions from someone who knows what they're doing for this.
Longer slices were easier to peel off than the coins.
Just in general, I think I need to let things dehydrate for longer.
mandoline mutilated and a few nicely sliced bananas
coins were much harder to peel off than the longer slices
